NSTRU’s staff representatives participate the provincial garland presentation ceremony to commemorate King Rama IX on the occasion of Father of the Royal Rainmaking Day 2018

In the morning of 14th November, 2018, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kanata Thatthong, President of Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University assigned Asst. Prof. Dr. Wichit Sukhatorn, vice President to lead staff members to participate in the garland presentation ceremony of Nakhon Si Thammarat province to commemorate King Rama IX on the occasion of Father of the Royal Rainmaking Day 2018 at Convention Room, Nakhon Si Thammarat Boromrajonani College of Nursing.

Father of the Royal Rainmaking Day is a day on which as it is the same date in 1955 that His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej started the royal rainmaking project. His Majesty devoted himself to study, research artificial rainmaking techniques in order to help Thai farmers resolving issue of water shortage for crop production. The royal rainmaking project has thus decreased the dependence on seasonal rainfall for agriculture activities and has increased the chance of having sufficient water during the long dry season despite geographical area.

The preliminary tests of the royal project was conducted on 20 July 1969. His Majesty spent the succeeding years devising, refining and perfecting his techniques until it has become successful in the following years. In 1975, the office of Rainmaking Operations under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives was established in response to the increasing demand of the artificial rainmaking operations.

The royal rainmaking operations have greatly benefited farmers throughout the kingdom. As the result in August 2002, Thai Cabinet designated 14 November of each year as “Father of Royal Rainmaking Day” to honor His Majesty tireless effort in the field.
