Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University reaps the 1st place among Thai Universities in the Southern Region from UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2019




From the latest UI GreenMetric World University Ranking 2019, which announced by University of Indonesia (UI), Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University (NSTRU) is ranked 1st in Southern Region of Thailand, 2nd of 38 Rajabhat Universities across the country, 19th in Thailand, and 334th in the world with a total score of 5,250, as a green university among 780 worldwide universities and 37 Thai educational institutes participating this year. The rankings are based on Six (6) main categories. These categories, and their weightings, are: Green Statistics (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste management (18%), Water usage (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education (18%), respectively. UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is an initiative of Universitas Indonesia which is being launched in 2010 to promote sustainability in higher education institutions worldwide. It allows universities to share their experience and best practices on sustainability issues, as well as to measure their sustainability policy, facilitating a comparison between them.

Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University has determined to join the Green University Project for the first time this year, during the administration of president, Asst. Prof. Kanata Thatthong, Ph.D., under his policy "Live and Learn in the Natural and Healthy Environment", by building natural learning space and green areas in order to grow imagination and learning, promoting the activities that inculcate awareness and ensure comprehensive practice in the campus. In addition, the university intends to serve as a public green space for neighbor communities' recreation activities and a pilot site for sustainable environment and energy saving through many activities and project, which is according to the university’s Philosophy as 'Brighten the local community, and develop our country'.

There are 37 universities from Thailand in this year's ranking, the top 5 in Thailand this year are Mahidol University ranked at no. 75, Kasetsart University ranked at no. 81, Chulalongkorn University ranked at no. 84, Dhurakij Bundit University ranked at no. 140, and Naresuan University ranked at no. 151. The top greenest university in the world this year is Wageningen University & Research, Netherlands.
